Eric Nishimoto teaches Magazine Production (Mayborn Magazine, JOUR 5720, and Denton Live, JOUR 5550 and 4850). Eric has previously taught media relations and strategic communications to professional journalists, government and corporate professionals, and college students. He comes to the Mayborn with over 30 years of experience in media and public relations, crisis communications and marketing in both the public and private sectors, as well as in journalism and commercial art
Eric received his Master’s degree in Journalism from the Mayborn in 2013 and previously attended UCLA, where he received his BA and completed post-graduate work in Fine Art and Law. Career highlights include being the primary media contact and media planner for the President Reagan memorial services and other historic news events of the last two decades, as well as communications and marketing consulting with a number of Fortune 500 companies. He was a regular contributor to various media outlets including CNN, FoxNews, BBC, AP and other international, national and regional news agencies.
Eric is a Mayborn Biography Fellow. He is the author of one book of historical fiction, and has been published in a variety of newspapers and magazines. He is also a published and exhibited artist, and has received numerous journalism and art awards including a Society of Professional Journalists Mark of Excellence award, several regional SPJ and Texas Intercollegiate Press Association awards, and a Texas Associated Press Managing Editors Community Service Award. He contributed to the team that designed and launched Center and Main, the award-winning literary web site developed out of the Archer City Writers Workshop. Eric is also a Mayborn Biography Fellow.
