Kathie Hinnen, M.A.
Kathie Hinnen is a senior lecturer in the Mayborn. She teaches introduction to media writing, news writing and reporting, opinion writing and news editing.

Hinnen has more than two decades of experience in reporting and editor. She has worked in small, medium and large newspapers in California, Missouri, Connecticut, North Carolina and Texas. Her consuming interest in the world around her and her desire to share what she learned led her into journalism. Her mission was to inform her audience about themselves and their neighbors, educate them about their options and empower them to have a stronger voice in their world.
As an instructor of journalism at universities in Missouri, North Carolina and now at UNT, her mission is to prepare students to be strong, perceptive and ethical journalists who will fulfill their responsibility to give audiences what they need and want to know, while being vigilant, effective watchdogs of those in power.
