Marta Mensa Torras (she/her/ella) is an assistant professor of advertising at the Mayborn School of Journalism, University of North Texas. She earned her PhD from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), specializing in creative advertising, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Gender Studies at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM).
Dr. Mensa’s research focuses on Hispanic/Latinx representation in advertising, advertising in Latin America, and gender stereotypes in advertising. She is currently collaborating with the President of the Hispanic Marketing Council to address the barriers faced by Hispanic and Latinx women in the advertising industry.
Originally from Catalonia, Spain, Dr. Mensa has spent 20 years living and working across Latin America, including Peru, Mexico, and Chile, which has led her to develop a special interest in Latin American culture. She identifies as both Catalan and Latinx. Dr. Mensa also brings industry experience, having worked at Leo Burnett.
