Dr. Zhang holds dual Ph.D.s: one in Management Science and Engineering from Tsinghua University and another in Media and Communication Studies from Bowling Green State University. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Mayborn School of Journalism at the University of North Texas.
Dr. Zhang serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Media Economics. His research spans the fields of economics, management, media studies, innovation diffusion, and generative AI. At UNT, he has taught courses in digital communication analytics, media economics, media management, audience research, and mobile media.
Dr. Zhang’s first book, Communication Efficiency and Economic Growth (Social Science Academic Press, 2009), examines the role of communication technologies in driving economic growth. His second book, The Measurement of Media Reputation (Rowman & Littlefield, 2019), develops measures for corporate media coverage, while his third book, Communication Research in the Big Data Era: The Application of Machine Learning Models and AI Techniques in Communication Research (Rowman & Littlefield, 2024), introduces state-of-the-art large language models for communication research.
In addition to these works, Dr. Zhang has authored over 50 publications, including journal articles and book chapters, and has received 14 top paper awards from national and international conferences.
