Kara Brock Schectman is an award-winning writer and reporter with 15 years of journalism, marketing, and broadcast experience.
Schectman was the Director of Marketing and Communications at the World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth; a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization whose mission is to educate and engage the local community in national and international affairs. While at the Council, she implemented strategies that ultimately led the Council to be named 2019 Council of the Year awarded by the World Affairs Councils of America (top honors for World Affairs Councils). She has also worked in a marketing role for the Young Presidents' Organization (YPO) - a global leadership community of chief executives - and in broadcast news at KTAL, the NBC affiliate serving Shreveport, LA.
Schectman is an active member of the Public Relations Society of America and previously served on the PRSA Dallas chapter board. In 2016, she was awarded the President's Award for Outstanding Service to the Chapter . She is an active alumnus of the University of North Texas (UNT) who currently sits on the board of The Mayborn School of Journalism and serves as a member of the UNT Alumni Association Steering Committee for Dallas. As a retired three-time All-American swimmer and Olympic trainee, she earned a full scholarship to UNT and is now the board secretary of the UNT Letterman's Association.
Schectman graduated from UNT in 2005 with degrees in Journalism and Political Science. In 2019 she earned an Executive Certificate in Nonprofit Governance from the University of Texas at Dallas Institute for Excellence in Corporate Governance.
