Newly Paul, Ph.D., Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge 2015, is an associate professor of print/digital media. Her research interests include political communication, race and gender issues in the media, and women in politics. Her dissertation examined the strategic use of emotional appeals in the political ads of women candidates in the 2008 elections. Newly has five years of experience as a journalist in India and Los Angeles, and has taught classes on news reporting and writing, editing, minorities in media, and political reporting. Her research has been published in top journals such as Journalism and Mass Communication Quarterly, Political Research Quarterly, and PS: Political Science and Politics.
