For those who wish to teach grades 8-12, the Mayborn School of Journalism offers a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism with teacher certification.
This program is a combination of courses offered through the News Department and the College of Education. The program prepares students to teach basic journalism courses and supervise secondary school newspapers, yearbooks, magazines, radio and television stations and online media. Students learn about the issues unique to teaching and reporting in an 8-12 environment.
They also have opportunities to practice essential skills such as mentoring, staff organization, editorial supervision, advertising sales, business management and new media integration.
Upon completion of this program, students will be prepared to sit for the certification examinations in Journalism. All state certification requirements and information on required examinations are available on the website of the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC).
